Free José María Sison Now!
On 28 August the Dutch police arrested Philippine revolutionary José María Sison. José María Sison has been an internationally recognized leader of the anti-imperialist and revolutionary movement in the Philippines for over 40 years. For the past two decades he has been forced into exile in the Netherlands. Over this time the Dutch authorities have repeatedly defied court decisions and have refused to grant him the political asylum status that he has sought. Instead they have constantly hounded and harassed him and sought to imprison him over various trumped up charges and have officially labeled him a “terrorist”. According to reports the police ransacked his Utrecht apartment and those of eight other Filipino leaders living in the Netherlands on August 28 and since that time they have been holding comrade Sison in solitary confinement under charges which could – if he is convicted – see him held in prison for life.
The Provisional Organizing Committee (Europe) of the World People’s Resistance Movement joins with people around the world to thoroughly condemn the reactionary steps taken by the Dutch government against comrade Sison. We demand his immediate and unconditional release from prison and that all charges and other restrictions levied against him be dropped. We call on all the chapters and supporters of the WPRM to join with people and organizations around the world in a common struggle to see that these demands are met.
