Throughout the world the people are furious with the US and British imperialists for their brutal rape of Iraq and determined to settle accounts. These imperialists hand in hand with the other reactionaries who currently make up their "coalition of the willing" still dream of enslaving the people of Iraq, plundering its oil wealth and turning it into a base from which they can further strengthen their domination of the entire Middle East and Gulf Region, or as they now call it "The Greater Middle East".
In June 2004 in Istanbul (Turkey) there will be a NATO Summit which will try to consolidate the imperialist Greater Middle East project. In particular the US and UK will be trying to mobilise the other major NATO powers (most especially France and Germany) to commit troops and resources to the imperialist occupation of Iraq. They hope that by putting a "NATO" sign on their brutal operation that they will be able to deflect the rising anger in Iraq and around the world to the crimes they are committing there on a daily basis. And they are increasingly more desperate to find additional cannon fodder for their wars of aggression. For their part, France and Germany have been demanding a bigger part of the "spoils of war" before they join in full. But whatever disputes may currently be taking place among these gangsters NATO, which is in charge of the occupation of Kabul and insuring the safety of the puppet reactionary Islamic regime that the imperialists have imposed on the people there and which massacred thousands of people in Kosovo in the name of "peace", will only help increase the power of the occupying forces in Iraq and Palestine and further suppress and oppress the people of the whole region. If NATO as a whole joins the US-led occupation of Iraq this will only serve imperialist aims there and in the Middle East region as a whole.
We dare not have any illusions that either NATO, or any of the regimes which currently make it up, will ever bring any "help" for the masses of people. We must not rest until the occupation of Iraq has ended and the occupiers are punished.
Many different groups and organisations are organising protest and resistance against the Nato summit in Istanbul. The World Peoples' Resistance Movement stands together with these protests and calls on people everywhere to support them in every way possible.
